OUR STORY

Haji Biryani, also known as Hajir Biryani, stands as one of the oldest culinary institutions nestled in the heart of Old Dhaka, Bangladesh, renowned for its signature chevon biryani (a dish made with highly seasoned rice and goat's meat). Established in 1939 as a humble roadside food corner by the visionary cook Haji Mohammad Hossain, the restaurant has evolved into an integral part of Dhaka's cultural fabric. Following Haji Mohammad Hossain's passing in 1992, his son, Haji Mohammad Golam Hossain, seamlessly carried forward the family legacy, preserving its authentic style and tradition. Eventually, the reins of this esteemed establishment were passed down to the third generation, Haji Mohammad Shahed Hossain, ensuring the continuity of its unparalleled culinary heritage. Haji Biryani's allure extends beyond its flavorful biryanis; it also offers refreshing borhani, a salted mint yogurt drink, and a variety of soft drinks. The recipe, meticulously passed down through generations, features highly seasoned rice, tender chevon, and a harmonious blend of spices, including garlic, onion, black pepper, saffron, clove, cardamom, and cinnamon. The dish, prepared with utmost care and consistency, has garnered widespread acclaim for its rich flavors and generous portions. With three branches across Dhaka, including the iconic location on Kazi Alauddin Road in Nazira Bazar, Haji Biryani continues to enchant patrons with its time-honored culinary delights, remaining an indispensable part of the city's gastronomic landscape.
